Doing Business in Edward River

The main urban area in the region, Deniliquin, is ideally positioned in the centre of the Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide triangle and situated close to Echuca / Moama, Shepparton and Bendigo. The region includes a number of small villages and a thriving rural community.

The Edward River region is one of the most productive irrigation areas in New South Wales, and our local economy is driven by a diverse agriculture industry, possessing a variety of sectors including stud sheep, stud cattle, wheat, rice and canola crops, wool, lambs, dairying and market gardening.

Tourism and events also contribute strongly to the region’s business diversity, with the visitor economy contributing approximately $24 million to the Edward River economy each year.

Major developments proposed for the Edward River region include a major expansion of the Deniliquin Abattoir, which is expected to create 185 additional jobs, and the construction of an ethanol plant by Dongmun Greentec, which is expected to create 60 jobs directly in the plant and a further 250 jobs in transport, agriculture and service industries.

A new runway is also proposed for Deniliquin Airport and a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed to develop an international airfreight terminal on the site. These developments will, when completed, will boost the local and regional economy by more than $60 million annually.
