Council Committees

Amalgamation Committees

Following the creation of Edward River Council on 12 May 2016, Council's Administrator invited former Councillors of the former Conargo Shire and Deniliquin Councils to join the Council's Implementation Advisory Group and Local Advisory Committee.

Both the IAG and LOC provide our community with representation until the inaugural Edward River Council elections in September 2017, and assist in ensuring Council continues to deliver the many local services valued by our community to the same or higher standard.

Implementation Advisory Group

The purpose of Council's Implementation Advisory Group (IAG) is to provide advice to the Administrator on implementing the new Council. The IAG meets once a month and assists in monitoring the delivery of the Implementation Plan. Members of the IAG include:

  • Norm Brennan;
  • Pat Fogarty;
  • Jeff Shand; and
  • Donald Henderson

Local Advisory Committee

Council's Local Advisory Committee (LAC) provides advice to the Administrator on local views and issues. Members of the LAC provide input to the Operational Plans for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 financial years, and play an important role in communicating and engaging with the Edward River community. Members of the LAC include:

  • Norm Brennan;
  • Bernard Clancy;
  • Peter Connell;
  • Sally Dye;
  • Pat Fogarty;
  • Donald Henderson;
  • Andrew Howley;
  • Peter McCrabb;
  • Nick Metcalfe;
  • Lindsay Renwick;
  • Jeff Shand;
  • Susan Taylor; and
  • Mac Wallace.

Section 355 Committees

Under section 355 of the Local Government Act 1993, Council is able to delegate some of its functions to a committee of Council. Council uses this delegation and appoints members of the community to manage its facilities or functions through a committee or board of management. These committees are known as Section 355 Committees.

Community involvement in managing community facilities provides better outcomes for locals, while engaging and including residents and providing them with an opportunity to participate in local life.

Council's current Section 355 Committees include:

  • Cemetery Advisory Committee
  • Central Murray Darling Association
  • Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee
  • Edward River Council Airport Advisory Committee
  • Edward River Council Community Garden;
  • Edward River Council Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee
  • Edward River Council Heritage Committee
  • Edward River Council Municipal Band Committee
  • Edward River Council Tidy Towns Committee
  • Edward River Users Group
  • Memorial Park Users Advisory Committee
