Landfills and Waste Disposal Depots

The Deniliquin Landfill Depot is located on Tip Road off the Cobb Highway, approximately 4.9 kilometres from the North Deniliquin roundabout.

The Deniliquin Landfill Depot has new opening hours.  Monday to Sunday commencing September 2022 the Landfill will open from 8.30am through to 1.00pm.  These hours will be in place for approximately three months.

The Blighty Waste Disposal Depot is open from 1.00pm to 5.00pm each Thursday and Sunday, excluding public holidays.

The following landfills and waste disposal depots are available to local rural residents and require a key to gain access which is available from Edward River Council's Customer Service Centre.

  • Conargo - McKenzie Street, Conargo;
  • Pretty Pine - Gibbs Road, Pretty Pine;
  • Wanganella - Cobb Highway, Wanganella.

Metal recycling facilities are available at the Blighty Waste Disposal Depot, Deniliquin Landfill Depot and Pretty Pine Landfill Depot.

Reduced Tip Hours

Due to public feedback and compliance reviews, the Deniliquin Landfill Depot hours will be reduced for maintenance and important environmental compliance work. From Monday 12th September, operating hours will be 8:30am – 1pm, 7 days a week for an approximate three-month period.

By reducing our opening hours to the public, Council will be better positioned to address the issues currently affecting the community and environment, including rubbish being blown into neighbouring properties, pile compaction, improvement of the facility aesthetics and odour control.

While these specific hours will be temporary to enable a program of maintenance work to be undertaken, Council will be implementing a permanent reduction in the landfill opening hours in the future.

Council is committed to engaging the Edward River community in a community consultation process to inform future operating hours. Information on how to have your say on the future operating hours of the landfill will be issued over the coming weeks.

Key improvement areas include:

  • Ongoing backend maintenance, including covering and pile compaction

  • Reduction of odours

  • Reduce/eliminate flying rubbish

  • Reduce wait times

  • Dramatically improve aesthetics

We thank you for your understanding and assistance in helping Edward River Council improve our services to the community.

Edward River Council has purchased and installed Oil Waste Collection Units at each of our waste depots. This project was undertaken to assist in the safe and convenient collection of waste oil throughout the region.

Collection of waste oil through purpose built units will assist in protecting our environment from leakages and spills which may otherwise occur. If you have any queries regarding this project or the use of these facilities, please do not hesitate to contact us.
