A major funding boost is set to transform Edward River Library, with a $185,000 Public Library Infrastructure Grant awarded for the 2024–25 financial year.

The grant, approved by the Minister for the Arts, the Honourable John Graham MLC, will support the creation of a dedicated, enclosed space within the library to better serve the diverse needs of the local community.

The funding will enable the enclosure of the back area of the library, currently home to the Local History collection. This upgrade will benefit the Genealogy Society and those engaged in Local History study, offering a more private and focused setting for research and collaboration. Library users who require a quiet area to use public computers will also benefit from the improved layout.

An additional area will be created to provide a quiet, flexible space for work-from-home members, school students, and an HSC Hub, while also providing a venue for workshops, educational programs and community meetings that won’t disturb the rest of the library.

Mayor of Edward River Council, Cr Ashley Hall said, “This grant is a significant step forward in making our library more inclusive and responsive to the evolving needs of our community. We’re excited to offer spaces that support both quiet study and vibrant activity, ensuring everyone feels welcome”.

Edward River Council is appreciative of the NSW Government and the State Library of NSW for their continued support of regional libraries and their role in strengthening community connections.
