Edward River Council is calling on the local community to share suggestions for the new name of the rest stop area within the North Deniliquin Reserve (formerly known as the North Deniliquin Tennis Club reserve), as part of its redevelopment of the area into a rest area for visitors to Deniliquin.

The Council has already resolved, in its February Ordinary Council Meeting, to adopt the name ‘Flo Allen Park’ for the area covering the former North Deniliquin tennis courts, located within the reserve. This resolution followed a public consultation process in 2024.

The name, ‘Flo Allen Park’ has been submitted to the Geographical Names Board, and is currently awaiting approval. Once approval has been granted, an interpretive sign will be installed at the site.

It is envisaged that the local community will have some creative ideas for the naming of the rest stop area, and Council is looking forward to receiving submissions.

Council is committed to involving community members in preserving and celebrating the rich history of the Edward River region, and this latest consultation is one way to do this.

“The community’s input is invaluable in naming this area. It’s a chance for everyone to contribute to a part of Deniliquin’s future,” said Mayor Ashley Hall.

“We encourage everyone who knows the area to share their suggestions and be part of the town’s planning process.”

Submissions can be made at: https://www.haveyoursay.edwardriver.nsw.gov.au/north-deni-rest-area-naming-public-exhibition

Community members can also pick up submission forms from Council’s Customer Service and the Edward River Library. Completed forms should then be returned to Customer Service or the Library in an envelope marked “Naming of Rest Stop Area” and addressed to the CEO of Edward River Council.

Submissions are open until 4pm on Tuesday 3 June 2025.
