Edward River Council invites property owners to take part in preserving the region’s rich architectural history through the newly opened 2025–2026 Local Heritage Grant Program.

With support from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, the program offers funding for conservation works that enhance the character and integrity of heritage-listed buildings and streetscapes.

The program supports:

• Community and public buildings

• Town and village streetscapes

Owners of heritage properties within the Heritage Conservation Area under the Edward River Local Environmental Plan 2016 are encouraged to apply.

Funding is typically directed toward smaller exterior projects such as fences, painting, front doors and windows. Successful applicants must match the grant dollar-for-dollar.

A standout project from last year saw Mel Anderson restore the heritage façade of 115 End Street, Deniliquin, reviving original tiles and repairing structural elements to reflect the building’s historic charm and character. Her vision to create a vibrant art space has brought new life to the streetscape.

Edward River Council CEO Jack Bond spoke of the ongoing importance of heritage restoration projects: "Heritage is more than a handful of specific buildings—it’s the story of our community. This program empowers locals to protect and celebrate that story."

Mayor of Edward River Council, Ashley Hall added,

"We’re proud to support initiatives that preserve our region’s identity and character. These grants assist in ensuring our heritage remains a living part of our towns and villages, not just a memory."

Applications close Friday 25 July 2025.
