Edward River Council has endorsed the name ‘Legends Rest Area’ for the rest stop area of the North Deniliquin Reserve, recognising the area's strong connection to the Deniliquin transport industry and its celebrated Wall of Fame.
The proposed name will now be placed on public exhibition for 28 days, giving the community another opportunity to provide feedback before the name is formally adopted.
During the initial public submission period, Council received approximately 30 name suggestions, with strong community support for the name ‘Legends Rest Area’ or similar wording. The name reflects the significance of the transport industry in Deniliquin and honours the contributions of individuals recognised on the Wall of Fame located at the rest area.
Mayor of Edward River Council, Ashley Hall welcomed the endorsement, stating:
“The name ‘Legends Rest Area’ pays tribute to the proud history and ongoing legacy of Deniliquin’s transport industry. It’s a fitting recognition of the legends who have shaped our community”.
This naming follows Council’s earlier resolution at its February 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting to adopt the name ‘Flo Allen Park’ for the area covering the former North Deniliquin tennis courts, also located within the reserve.
In addition to these naming decisions, Council will develop a Naming Policy for Public Parks and Facilities to guide future naming processes and ensure community involvement and transparency.
Community members are encouraged to view the proposed name and provide feedback during the exhibition period via the Council’s website www.haveyoursay.edwardriver.nsw.gov.au or by visiting the Council offices.
