Book Week Writing Competition

Theme: An Edward River Adventure

Who can enter: High Schoolers, Year 7-12

Word Count by Year Level:

• Year 7/8 Minimum 500 words Maximum 750 words

• Year 9/10 Minimum 500 words Maximum 750 words

• Year 11/12 Minimum 800 words Maximum 1,000 words

Submission Due: July 18^th, 2025

How to submit:

Upload Short Story to Edward River Website or attend the Library.

Announcement: During Book Week August 17^th-23^rd.  

• Entries must be submitted by Friday, 18 July 2025, either online or in person at the Edward River Library.
• The competition is open to high school students who reside in the Edward River Council LGA or attend Deniliquin High School.
• Entries must comply with the minimum and maximum word count as outlined in the competition guidelines.
• Submissions must be the original work of the student and must not be created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools or assistance.
• Entries must be submitted as a Word Document (.doc or .docx) file with no identifiable information (e.g., name, school, or contact details) included in the document.
• Each submission must be accompanied by a completed entry form, available online at: https://www.edwardriver.nsw.gov.au/Community/Event/BookWeekCompetition or in person at the Edward River Library.
• The entry form will contain the student's personal details, allowing stories to be judged anonymously.

Edward River Council will be celebrating Two winners from each Stage with prizes. Prize details are as follows: 

1^st prize: $250.00 Shop Local Voucher

• Excerpt of short story published in Pastoral Times, ERC website, ERC FB, and Library                

• Added to Edward River Library Local History Collection

• Certificate

2^nd Prize: $50.00 Shop Local Voucher

• Excerpt of short story published at Edward River Library    

• Short Story added to Edward River Library Local History Collection

• Certificate
