Edward River Council is committed to supporting our older residents and visitors and ensuring that they have access to information about staying healthy and being involved in our community.

Commonwealth Home Support

Commonwealth Home Support is an Australian Government program for older people who need assistance with daily tasks to live independently at home. Services available under this program include community and home support, food services, and allied health support services.

You may eligible for services under this program if you are:

  • 65 years or older, or 50 years or older and identify as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person, or 50 years or older on a low income, homeless or at risk of homelessness;
  • Still living at home; and
  • In need of help at home to continue to live independently.

Veterans’ Home Care

Veterans’ Home Care is an Australian Government program designed to assist those veterans and war widows/ widowers who wish to continue living at home, but who need a small amount of practical help. This program is provided through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Services available under the program include:

  • Domestic assistance;
  • Personal care;
  • Respite; and
  • Home and garden maintenance.
